The Gallipoli campaign was one of the greatest Ottoman victories during the war. In Turkey, it is regarded as a defining moment in the nation's history: a final surge in the defence of the motherland as the Ottoman Empire crumbled. The struggle formed the basis for the Turkish War of Independence and the declaration of the Republic of Turkey eight years later under Mustafa Kemal (Kemal Ataturk) who first rose to prominence as a commander at Gallipoli. The campaign is often considered as marking the birth of national consciousness in Australia and New Zealand and the date of the landing, 25 April, is known as "Anzac Day" which is the most significant commemoration of military casualties and veterans in those two countries, surpassing Remembrance Day.

We did the Gallipoli day tour from Istanbul with Celsus Travel. Their customer service was exceptional! Our reservation was at the last minute but Ms. Ezgi made everything easy and replied in minutes when I contacted her. This included at 11pm at night when one of our group left his phone on the van and she was able to get in touch with the driver straight away so he could come back and drop the phone off. We did a private tour because we were based out of Istanbul and didn't want to make the day too long by having to get into Istanbul for the normal departure time. It was a brilliant day and well worth the extra cost. The guide was very knowledgeable and everyone involved was extremely friendly.

I recommended Celsus Travel to my friend who did the 2 day Gallipoli trip and she was also very impressed by their service and hospitality.
